What is a Yacht Club Officer? Past Commodores & Princesses Pebbles 2008 Officers Princess Requirements
A Yacht Club Officer is someone who gives up a lot of their personal time for their club. They give up a minimum of one night per month for meetings, some months two or more, countless hours to fulfill their duties, 8-10 weekends from March through June to represent your club at openings and several winter Saturday evenings to attend other club’s Commodore’s Balls. When they become Commodore, the winter evenings increase to most Saturdays between October and March.
Being an officer is a duty and responsibility. It takes dedication on not only the officer, but also their spouse / significant other and families as well. Many times it means putting Club activities ahead of family and non-boating friends, biting their lip, nodding their head and moving on. It means putting on their uniform at an event while others are in comfy clothes.
The pay is not in dollars and cents. It comes in the success of completing their duties, the friends they make and the memories they create.
Most yacht club officers do their job to the best of their ability. They deserve the respect of the club members and their fellow officers. Often times this is forgotten not only by members but by fellow officers as well. Rather than criticize, maybe time needs to be taken to thank your officers and Past Commodores for the job they are doing or have done and to offer your support. White Rocks Yacht Club would not be where it is today without lots of dedication by the Past Commodores and their families.
For almost ten years now, the attendance by White Rocks Yacht Club officers at sister clubs’ opening, balls and affairs has increased. We are well known up and down the Bay. These past and current officers have worked hard to maintain our presence on the bay.
