WHAT IS A COMMODORE'S BALL?

This article was written to serve as a source of information for our newer members and as a refresher for our older members.

One of the most important and significant social affairs of any yacht club is the annual Commodore’s Ball. It is a special time when members of the club, other yacht clubs, friends and guests come together to honor the new Commodore, the First Mate, the Officers, the Board Members and their mates at a Formal Ceremony. It is a time of celebration, a time to renew old friendships and to make new ones, a time to dress up, a time to relax and to enjoy. The Immediate Past Commodore is also honored for his contributions to his Club and the Yacht Club community over the past year.

The cost of the affair is very much in line with an evening on the town – Dinner, Drinks and Dancing at a fancy restaurant. Why not make tickets to the Ball a Christmas present to yourself and your special someone???

Nothing to wear??? Gals- your Sunday best or that “special” dress you wore to a recent evening wedding or party will be just fine. Guys- no need to rent a tux, (although you can if you want) a suit or a sport coat with a tie is just fine. THERE IS BUT ONE RULE! NO WHITE!! Traditionally, the Commodore’s First Mate, The Club’s Princess and The Queen of the Chesapeake are the only attendees to wear White. This is a sign of recognition for the extra time, talent and effort they give to their own club and to the yachting community. This year since we have a Lady Commodore, she asks that any First Lady who wants to wear her Ball gown is welcome to do so. Please respect this.

Members are encouraged to attend and to bring friends and family. There is a head table and seating is assigned. If you wish to be seated with a particular couple, group or club, the Ball Committee makes every effort to accommodate your wishes.
