When White Rocks Yacht Club (WRYC) was formed, we were located at White Rocks Marina off Fort Smallwood Road. In 1961, 1981-1983 P/C Donald Reed along with several of our members obtained WRYC’s Charter and moved White Rocks to our current location on Nabb’s Creek.
P/C Donald Reed is WRYC’s only Commodore to be elected Commodore three years. Back before women could actually become members of a yacht club White Rocks had a ladies auxiliary named The Pebbles. The Pebbles dissolved in 1981 and women joined the club. In 1987 White Rocks Yacht Club elected their First Women Commodore, Linda Reed.
In 1994 Donald Monaghan was elected Commodore and it started our “Stellar Year.” White Rocks received numerous plaques and awards, including Queen of the Chesapeake, Ms. Kelly McGonigal, King of the Chesapeake, 1996 P/C Bob Manders, and Queen of the Galley Slaves, Ms. Dana Clemens. In 2008 WRYC elected their fourth women Commodore and the Third Davis Family Member.
Our Opening Day Weekend has been held at Bodkin Yacht Club for the past nine years on Mother’s Day Weekend.
The object of this club shall be to promote the education of the sciences of seamanship and navigation and to encourage the sport of yachting, sailing aquatics and boating in general for recreation and welfare of its members.
